When it’s time to move to a different place, you will have lots of different options for both truck and company. One of the best companies to choose from is U-Haul. However, that still leaves you the option of which size truck you want to go with, as U-Haul offers trucks ranging from 10 feet up to 26 feet.
The exterior size of U-Haul’s 26-foot box truck is 34′ 6″ long, 8′ 1″ wide, and 8′ 3″ tall. For the interior, the main section of the truck is 23′ 6″ long, 8′ 6″ wide and 6′ 10″ tall, with a mom’s attic size of 2′ 7″ long, 8′ 1″ wide and 3′ 3″ tall. It can hold up to 12,000 pounds.
So, you now have what the dimensions of the 26-foot box truck are from U-Haul, but for the vast majority of people, this is going to mean very little. So, what do these dimensions mean when you get into more detail? Throughout the rest of this article, I will go over all of the details that you are going to need to know to determine if you are wanting to go with the 26-foot truck or one of the other options.
Dimensions Of The Box Size
As stated before, when you are finding the total size of the box, there are multiple aspects you can look at. The first option is to take the outside measurements of the box, you can also take the inside measurements of the box, and then you also have to make sure you include the size of the mom’s attic in the box.
Outside Measurements
For the outside measurements of the box, you will find that just the box, excluding the mom’s attic portion, is 23 feet 6 inches wide, 8 feet 6 inches wide, and 6 feet 10 inches tall. This means if you are using just the outside measurement of the box, then you are going to have a volume of 1,682 cubic feet. However, when determining how much the box can carry, you must use the interior size of the box as you will find it is slightly smaller. However, this does give you a general understanding of how large the box of the truck is.
Inside Measurements
In regards to the interior size of the box, you are going to find that this will determine the amount of space you are going to have to be able to store all of your stuff. The interior dimensions of the box, excluding the mom’s attic, are 23’6″ long, 8’1″ wide, and 8’3″ tall.
When using this information, you are going to find that the total area of the box is 1,582 cubic feet, which, while it can be very hard to determine how much this can fit, it typically will be able to hold the furniture and all of the stuff from 3 to 4 different rooms.
For the amount of weight you can carry in the box, you will have a max weight of up to 12,859 pounds, as the gross weight capacity of the 26-foot truck is 25,999 pounds. For the door opening that you are going to be able to use, you are going to find that the door is 7′ 9″ wide and 6′ 10″ tall, meaning it will be fairly easy to get everything into the truck.
Mom’s Attic Measurements
The mom’s attic is the small storage section that is connected to the box and is located directly above the driver section of the truck. This area isn’t super large. However, it still gives you plenty of space to fit several boxes and items for storing more stuff. The size of the mom’s attic is just 2′ 7″ long, 8′ 1″ wide, and 3′ 3″ tall.
And while these are the exterior measurements of the mom’s attic, you are going to have the same size on the interior and are going to have 67.866 cubic feet of storage. While this area isn’t super large, it does add a bit more to your total amount of storage, increasing it to a total of 1,649 cubic feet, making plenty of room for your stuff.
Dimensions Of The Overall Size
When it comes to the overall size of the truck, you will find that the truck is a total of 34 feet 6 inches long, 14 feet 3 inches tall, and 8 feet 1 inch wide. That means, to be able to clear bridges or get into a parking garage, you are going to have to make sure there are at least 14 feet 6 inches of height from the group to the bottom of the ceiling/ bridge to the ground. Otherwise, you won’t be able to pass by it without damaging the truck.
As mentioned earlier, you are going to find that the total gross weight capacity of the truck is 25,999 pounds, with the capacity to hold 12,859 pounds in the box as the empty weight of the vehicle is 13,140 pounds. Along with the weight that it is going to be able to hold, the 26-foot box truck is capable of holding up to 10,000 pounds.
Features Of Box Truck
There are a number of different features that come with the box truck. The first of these is the loading ramp, to make using dollys much easier. The loading ramp that the 26-foot box truck comes with is 2 feet and 7 inches wide, meaning that the vast majority of dollys can fit onto the ramp.
Some of the other features that you are going to find are the “van-like” cab which can fit 3 people. You also are going to enjoy the air conditioning, automatic transmission, AM/ FM radio, and disc brakes.
